This is the view from the front. There was sign in Nalut announcing some kind of tourist festival the weekend we passed through, but we didn't see any other sign of it.

And around the back, where you come up from the carpark. You can see less fortified around this way.

Inside, it's full of these storage holes in the walls, once with palm-trunk doors. A keeper would be able to remember which family was using which hole and what they had in there - and there's something like 400 holes. They stored grains, crops, oil etc. Some of the storage areas are big enough to walk into, and these were sometimes sub-divided.

This path took you around the granary, in more or less a circle.

And this was a millstone, moved by donkey probably.
We went to Leptis Magna a few weeks ago, so I'll post photos of that over the next few weeks.

I believe CBH has some technology similar to this out Muntadgin way. ;-)
This week in Ambassador land;
we had the plumber who designed the pool at our house out to try and solve a few problems. He has a very large, long, bushy beard. Later that evening (yes, they normally turn up after 6 o'clock to start these things) the local man from Blue Sun Corp translated for me that the plumber had asked if his beard scared me. Apparently he was concerned that, because we in the western world see 'that other guy' with a big bushy beard on tv all the time, we might think that meant anyone with a big bushy beard was dangerous. He wanted to assure me he was a peaceful man.
He didn't seem totally convinced that people in the western world had beards too. But when i said my father had one that seemed good enough for him, because who would make something like that up?
We also went back to the restaurant in the old city by the Marcus Arilleous(sp?) Arch. This time I got a lamb dish that was cooked in a clay pot, which they then bring out on a little table ext to your and crack open with a small hammer. Very very very nice. On the english version of the menu the lamb is often spelled lamp, because P and B are the same letter in Arabic.
are there many Roman remains left for you to ponder?
We've pretty much exhausted our roman ruin options nearby to Tripoli.
